BK English is a traditional textbook that is complimented by an online version. This online textbook provides every page from the printed textbook, and more. In addition to accessing each page online, students can complete homework assignments online and take practice tests online. Each level also provides numerous links to related web sites. It also provides teachers with an online gradebook which is web based and very easy to use. BK English also electronically scores exams and tests, saving valuable time for teachers.
What kind of computers do we need?
Our Internet site will run on any computer that has an Internet connection, Adobe Reader 4.0, and an Internet browser. This includes PC’s and Macs in 99% of any school you will enter. Obviously, newer is better, but our site has been designed to work with “older” technology in mind. For specific requirements please see the technical documentation that is included with your browser or call Barrett Kendall Publishing Technical support.
Do you have an electronic grade book and

Yes, we have an online grade book. It is electronic and can communicate with other grade books. Grades are automatically posted to this grade book from our website whenever a student takes an exam or does homework online.
Will our teachers get training for the online book?
Yes! Teachers, selected students, and school administrators will receive training from Barrett Kendall Publishing on how to use the online book.
Will teachers be able to turn exams on and off, and limit access to online tests?
Yes, teachers will be able to manage exams for students.
We don’t have computers in our school? What can we do?
That’s OK. You don’t need computers to use our program. Use our traditional textbook and ancillary materials. You do not have to use the electronic book to use our program. Please don’t deny your kids the opportunity to have access to the online textbook just because you don’t have computers today. What are the chances that your school will eventually get computers? Probably pretty good. The online textbook is there for those that want to use it. It is strictly a matter of preference for the teacher, which one to use.
Why doesn’t the BK English website work at my school?
Any difficulties getting BK English Online to work at your school can be resolved
with further research and assistance from our helpful staff.
a. Computer does not have the correct version of Adobe Acrobat reader loaded, or there are multiple versions of the reader installed on the computer (version 3 and version 4 at the same time.).
b. Cannot access BK English website: Most schools have network security that prevents students from browsing the Internet randomly and unattended. This is a good thing. The most likely cause of not being able to access BK English is because a firewall or proxy server denies access to our site. This can be corrected as long as we notify the technology coordinator or LAN administrator of the school. Whoever is in charge of the school security system will have to allow access to BK English.
c. Improperly configured Internet browser or incorrect version of Internet browser: Web browsers (Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator) must be properly configured to accept information from our website. Call for assistance if you experience Internet browser problems.
What do I need to know in order to use BK English online?
The only thing you need to know is how to point and click a mouse button on the computer in order to use our BK English Online textbook. Little or no typing required, and little knowledge of computers is required.
Can students print exams and book materials?
No, the website prohibits the printing of exams and book
information due to copyright laws, and plagiarism issues.
Teachers have access to all tests (exams) in printed format as part of the ancillary materials.
NO, students do not use email with the online book. The BK English website does
all the electronic transferring of grading and homework. Students cannot access
any email on our server.
Where/When can students access BK English online?
Because BK English is an Internet site, students, teachers, and administrators can access the website night or day, 24 hours a day, from anywhere in the world.
Can students share information on the website?
NO, students cannot share homework or tests. Each student has a unique Student
ID, password, and class ID that prohibits other students from accessing the
website as another student.
